INFORMATION SCIENCE SEMINAR The Design of a Japanese Law Translation System
Speakers: Katsuhiko Toyama and Yasuhiro Ogawa, Graduate Faculty of Information Science at Nagoya University, Japan Date: Wednesday, March 02, 2005 4:15-5:15p Location: 301 College Avenue, Seminar Room
Abstract - Recent developments in machine translation technologies, together with
the rigorous nature of Japanese legislative draftsmanship, make it
feasible to design and build systems that aid in the translation of
Japanese law into English. A multidisciplinary team from the Graduate
School of Information Science and from the Center for Asian Legal
Exchange at Nagoya University, Japan, will present the basic
machine-translation techniques and preliminary research that form the
foundation for the project, as well as describing some of the unique
features of Japanese law creation that support the process.
If you would like to meet with Katsuhiko Toyama and Yasuhiro Ogawa during their visit, please contact Anat Nidar-Levi. |
