Week 5: Essay

The assignment for this week is to write a short paper (5-10 pages), elaborating on some topic considered so far (or tying together more than one such topic). This is not intended to be an opinion piece, but should be grounded in readings and/or information from the colloquium speakers. We encourage you to search for other relevant papers that augment those that we have recommended.

In writing your paper, pay attention to the organization of the topics. There should almost certainly be:

• an introduction to the topic explaining what the paper sets out to achieve
• a summary of current work, which might criticize current work
• a development of your ideas
• a conclusion that summarizes what you paper has achieved
• references

The instructors will be available during office hours or by appointment for discussions of paper topics.
